In the words of Abraham Joshua Heschel, “God is pursuing man” (God in Search of Man, p.136). God loves us enough to reach out to us and wrestle with us. We are sought and pursued by God all our lives; He grapples with us, urging and gently pushing us beyond our comfort zones.
Are we attentive to earthly needs and sharing the fragrant message about God’s love? Are we emitting a wonderfully soothing and life-saving odor, or has our scent become offensive and foul?
God is at the core of the universe, overflowing with love for the human race. There can be no doubt, as God appeared as human—as one of us—receiving, accepting, and truly loving us yet standing within the inner circle of the triune God.
God was providing the grumbling people with something beautiful—life-giving water flowing in a dry and waterless place.
So, if the devil is theoretically a theologian that both believes and shudders yet remains a devil, what does that say about the beliefs I hold?
There have always been only two motives—love and hate—and only two journeys that proceed from them.
God truly desires to be with us. I want my heart to be won by the love of God, who is always for me and whose heart pulsates with desire for me.
Are there enough righteous people today who follow the ways of love, justice, and compassion?
Instead of boasting about God’s infinite authority and might, I want to boast more about His love. When you know and experience someone deeply, you are intimately bound to them. The biblical prophet Jeremiah said that this is what God desires.
